This event will explore fake content and the role that it can play in our worlds.
About the event
CAKE 43 – Deep Fake CAKE – will explore fake content and the role that it can play in our worlds as we consume an ever-greater volume of media content across a broad range of channels and platforms.
What does fake content mean as we try to understand these worlds?
We will also look at how we interact and engage with one another, and how such content is increasingly creative and persuasive.
Further details announced shortly.
Speakers
This event will be hosted by Richard Clay – currently a Professor of Digital Cultures at Newcastle University and Co-Head of School X.
We are delighted to be joined by two fantastic speakers:
- Rachel Maclean – Rachel is a multi-media artist who has shown widely in the UK and internationally. Using film and photography, she creates outlandish characters and fantasy worlds which she uses to delve into politics, society and identity. Wearing colourful costumes and make-up, she takes on every role in her films herself, and uses computer technology to generate her locations, borrowing audio from television and cinema to construct narratives with a comedic touch
- Cassian Harrison – Cassian is currently SVP Content & Commissioning for BBC Studios, taking a leadership role in developing and launching new BBC services for international audiences in partnership with companies such as Apple and Amazon. Before this, Cassian was Channel Editor of BBC4. He was responsible for maintaining and building the channel’s singular and innovative voice, capitalising on its successes across Arts, Music, History, Documentary and International Drama. Under his leadership the channel saw consistent audience growth and won many awards including Broadcast Digital Channel of the Year and Edinburgh TV Festival Specialist Channel of the Year.

“Not only was the event interesting and enjoyable but, for my company, it was an opportunity to make new connections. It has created new opportunities for Living Archive Limited, at a time in the company’s development where such opportunities are crucial for survival… The CAKE event was a chance to step back for a moment and focus on the bigger picture, and this has been very valuable to me.”
